Message from the ASK Mentoring Outreach Director
Dear Prospective Volunteer: Greetings from the ASK Family of Volunteers. We are hoping that you, also, will hear the cry of the forgotten and discarded within the prison system. We have 200 volunteers mentoring in 4 different institutions. Would you like to volunteer in a Fire Camp or maybe at the men's or women's prison? We match men to men and women to women.
Despair, disillusion, hopelessness, rejection.. These are just a few of the negative
feelings and emotions that prisoners experience daily. Most inmates have experienced
fractured relationships, abuse and broken dreams. Through the one-
The bible states, "Remember those who are in prison, as though in prison with them". Jesus referred to those in prison as "one of the least of these" and gave all a mandate to visit those in prison.
Change doesn't come by incarcerating and ignoring the root problem. It takes time, love, listening, patience, hope and more love. As Volunteers, we are givers. By giving and not taking, we exemplify these attributes to the lost and downtrodden.
I became a volunteer and served for two and one half years. Now, through the Grace of God, I am the Director of ASK Mentoring Outreach, Inc. As I see the "glow" in the eyes of both the volunteers and inmates each time they meet, I am able to see the gift of God in action. It's like the excitement of a child at Christmas.
With your monthly investment of time and our other volunteers, we can make a difference in the life of an individual that sits behind bars. Together we will be able to watch a beautiful rose bloom.
Sincerely,
Pam Petix
Director
